Leadership
Conference 2009-Thursday, October
22, 2009 Garden Grove, CA
GARDEN GROVE, Calif.---Over 200
people attended the highly
successful 1st Leadership
Conference, “Strength, Connect &
Strategies for Success,” hosted by
the
Asian American Business Women
Association (AABWA), Thursday
October 22, 2009 at the Embassy
Suites Hotel.
The event is
known to be the largest gathering in
Orange County which specifically
focused on addressing support,
education and business needs of
Asian and Asian American women.

AABWA’s founder, Kim-Yen Huynh, said
she was extremely gratified by the
full turnout, but not surprised,
given the unmet need for Asian
American women to connect with each
other.
“The leadership conference was just
the beginning for us to share the
many ways we can inspire ourselves
and each other to take a leadership
role in our communities,” said
Huynh. “This conference is what we
needed here in Orange County to
continue to encourage Asian American
women to celebrate their creativity
and embrace risk!”
“Silent majority in the silent
minority!”
The event’s keynote speaker was
Holly Fujie, immediate past
President of the State Bar of
California. Fujie gave a spirited
speech, encouraging her fellow Asian
American women to forego the
negative stereotypes of Asian women
as passive and submissive. “Asian
Americans are sometimes referred to
as the Silent Minority, and Asian
women are the silent minority within
that majority, so we need to speak
up and don’t be afraid to ask for
what you want!”
